Tameside
school wins FA award
Alder
Community High School in Gee
Cross has achieved the Football Association’s Charter Standard award.
The
Charter Standard for Schools programme is a kite-marking scheme that establishes minimum standards of football development
in schools.
The scheme recognises good practice in football coaching in schools and raises standards by
sharing this good practice.
Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership’s Football Development Officers helped Alder
apply for Charter Standard status, along with Alder High School’s School Sport Coordinator Dave Bibby.
It follows on from the Schools successful
involvement with local club Hattersley Football Club.
Dave Bibby said ‘To gain the Charter Standard award is another fantastic achievement for
the school, it shows our commitment to football and sport for both girls and boys at the school. The commitment to sport at
this school from both players and staff is superb and long may it continue.’
To
gain Charter Standard status schools must comply with a strict list of criteria.
Teachers must have minimum FA qualifications, football must be provided
for boys and girls both in the curriculum and out of school hours, the school must be affiliated to the English
Schools Football Association and have links with a junior football club.
The
benefits of Charter Standard include
free equipment and tickets to international matches for pupils, as well as a certificate, use of the FA Charter Standard logo
and an exclusive newsletter.
Charter
Standard schools are also entered for county,
regional and national awards including the Pepsi Charter Standard Individual Schools Awards.
Anyone who wants to get involved in football in Hattersley, as a junior player or as a volunteer,
can contact Football Development Officers Andy or Paul at the Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership on 0161 368 2096.
